DVD Review: "TEEN TITANS: TROUBLE IN TOKYO"
REVIEWER: Bill Ramey
TEEN TITANS: TROUBLE IN TOKYO is the first -- and probably last -- full-length film based on the animated TV series that appears on THE CARTOON NETWORK. Here’s the plot: A “technologically advanced” ninja from Japan attacks Titans Tower, so the Teen Titans respond and attempt to bring him down. When Robin finds out that the ninja was sent by a mysterious and menacing Japanese criminal known as “Brushogun,” the team figures out that things are not over -- they are just getting started. The team then travels to Tokyo on a mission to track down this Brushogun and bring him to justice. But can the Titans stay out of trouble in Japan? Can Robin discover and solve the mystery of Brushogun before the latter takes down the Titans -- and destroys everything Robin stands for in the process? Look, I’m not a fan of the show -- that doesn’t mean that I dislike it or anything. But I have watched it here and there and it’s not bad, it’s simply not up my alley. But hey, my sons love the hell out of if that means anything! At any rate… TEEN TITANS: TROUBLE IN TOKYO is basically a wrap-up movie for the series which is coming to and end. In that regard, it comes across as an extended episode of the show, rather than a true “movie.” But that shouldn’t really bother anyone who is a fan of series to be honest. As far as DVD is concerned, it is presented in standard full-screen transfer which may bother some. “Extras” consist of a few trailers, the “Lost Episode” from Postopia, and a video game definitely aimed at the “younger crowd.” That’s it. No commentary or “behind the scenes” documentaries which should disappoint fans. All in all, if you or your kids are a fans of TEEN TITANS, pick this one up. If you are a casual viewer of this show, this one’s a rental for sure.
